Prompt
The pioneer American jazz musician and composer, John Coltrane, wrote of serving others through his work: “During the year 1957, I experienced, by the grace of God, a spiritual awakening which was to lead me to a richer, fuller, more productive life. At that time, in gratitude, I humbly asked to be given the means and privilege to make others happy through music … to inspire them to realize more and more of their capacities for living meaningful lives. Because there certainly is meaning to life. I feel this has been granted through His grace. ALL PRAISE TO GOD.”
Reflect on the following questions: What do the quote from Coltrane and the following verse from Colossians communicate to us in terms of our attitude towards work? As managers and HR professionals, how can we work to God’s glory and serve others?
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ (Colossians 3:23-24, ESV)
