To rewrite or not to rewrite
Self plagiarism is a very common form of plagiarism in the English classroom, and most universities do not allow self-plagiarism.
Before you respond to this prompt, please (1) read the self plagiarism section of the Course Information page Plagiarism has more than likely been reviewed in each of your courses up until now. A good portion of plagiarism occurs because the writer does not understand the parameters and formatting of quotes, paraphrases, and researched information. You should have begun the course by reading the announcement that discusses plagiarism. Please, also be sure to read the University Policy on Academic Dishonesty that is linked in the left-hand menu of this course. and (2) review What is Plagiarism and Self Plagiarism What is Plagiarism and Self Plagiarism – Alternative Formats that briefly explains both plagiarism and self plagiarism, and (3) then respond to the following prompts:
Initial Response: In one paragraph, argue your stance to the question, “Is self plagiarism a form a cheating? Why or why not?” You can use personal examples or examples from the PDF “What is Plagiarism and Self Plagiarism” and the course information page. Finish your response by asking your peers a question that they can answer in their peer responses.
Plagiarism occurs when a student purposefully presents someone elses
words, ideas, or other original materials without referencing the original source
or author.
Examples:
A student uses paraphrases, quotations, or ideas from an outside source and
does not reference the original source or author.
A student purchases or uses someone elses work and submits it as their own.

Self-Plagiarism occurs when a student purposefully uses work that they
have submitted in a previous class without substantial revision and checking
with their current instructor.
Examples:
A student retaking ENG110 submits an assignment that they used in the
previous ENG110 class without substantial revision and checking with their
current instructor.
A student in HIS101 submits the exact paper he/she wrote in ENG110 without
substantial revision and checking with their current instructor.
