Survey of Middle Eastern History

What does it mean to say the nation is imagined? Using the cases of
Turkey and Iran, draw on theoretical analysis of the nation (Anderson) to
discuss secularization, religion, history, language, and the state. What
sort of violence did the nation-state require? What made the new state
possible and what challenges did it face?
