Sloths

Sloths live in the tropical forests of Central and South America(National Kids Geographic).

    With their long arms and shaggy fur, they resemble monkeys, but they are actually related to armadillos and anteaters(National Kids Geographic).

    A sloth can lose one-third of its body weight from pooping. You can physically see the stomach shrinking (Jason Bittel).

    The sloth’s nature allows it to conserve energy, moving slower than any other mammal on the planet. This modest pace means that sloths generally travel no more than 125 feet (38 meters) in a single day, and on the rare occasion that they find themselves at ground level, they crawl only 1 foot (30 cm) per minute.     Sloth fur is home to a whole ecosystem, or community of living things. Tiny animals burrow into a sloth’s hair to eat delicious algae that often grows there. Hundreds of moths, beetles, cockroaches, and worms can reportedly be found on some sloths.(National Geographic).

    So, while sloths are not aggressive, if confronted they can attack. Unlike hippos and a lot of other animals, there are no registered incidents of anyone being killed by a sloth, and any other type of attack is rare and not known to have been very serious.(Slothpop.com).

    If they are in immediate danger from a predator, they can move at a marginally higher speed (4.5 metres per minute), Sloth Can move faster when upside-down, but very slow when on the ground. On the ground their maximum speed is 1.5 metres per minute. They mostly move at 15 30 centimetres per minute.(youtube.com)
