What is your understanding of the “color line,” as discussed throughout the chapter? What does “postracial” mean and how does the author argue that America did not become postracial after the Civil Rights Act and Voting Act supposedly brought about equality for blacks? Why weren’t blacks ACTUALLY equal? Why is “colorblindness” an ineffective approach to creating legal policies in America? What was Affirmative Action meant to do and how was it contested? How did institutions, like universities, become a battleground in the fight for racial equality?
