Relationships: Psychoanalytic Theory
Prompt:
Do you see that any of your current relationships with others can be explained by Freuds theory? Please explain using specific components of psychoanalytic theory. Can a Freudian perspective be used by a Christian counselor? Please explain your response.
1. My relationship with my mother. She has had a history of anxiety and depression which has ultimately led to myself being diagnosed. As a result of her inconsistency growing up, I had to learn the correct ways to talk to her, using my Id, Ego, and Superego.
-This can be explained through Freud’s psychoanalytic theory. (Describe the components)
2. My relationship with my twin sister. She also struggles with anxiety so we have to use our id ego and superego to figure out difficult situations. We are very sensitive so we have to be cautious and aware of what we say to each other. (What is my Id wanting to do? My ego? My superego? (Trauma has also played a role, hence superego)
3. Luckily, I have experienced going to therapy and have found the tools to deal with my relationships while enduring anxiety and depression.
4. I absolutely believe a Freudian perspective be used by a Christian counselor. We need God in our lives.
