Haydn String Quartet No. 62, Movement 2
Watch and listen to the video of the Veridis Quartet’s performance of the second movement of Haydn’s String Quartet No. 62, linked just above this assignment in this week’s Moodle block. This movement is an example of a Theme and Variations form. Revel describes this form this way: “A theme is presented and then altered in some waythrough harmony, melody, texture, dynamics, or some combination of thesein a succession of individual variations”.
Which variation is your favorite (or is it the theme itself)? Include a statement about how a musical composition such as this might be used in your world. Is it something you might listen to while exercising, to pump you up, to relax, for background music, on a Tom & Jerry cartoon… No wrong answers!
