Final project and paper
The format of this paper is an example of how a basic social science project is executed and written up. Notice that I have broken things up into manageable chunks and with page number suggestions (please use headers for each sction). Also note that you can copy and paste a lot of this information from your earlier essays 1-4, but you will need to do some editing to make it good. You might have to omit some stuff, add some stuff, or move some stuff around.
Here is the organization format for the final paper:
I. Introduction: Write an overview of the Paper and Project (what this paper/project will do) (Approximately 1 page)
II. What is sociology, what is the scientific method, and what does it mean to think structurally/critically? (Here use Paper 1) (Approximately 2pages)
III. Theory/Review of the Literature and Hypotheses. What sociological themes help me think about the project topic. Pick a few things that relate to your topic and show the connection. Here you can use Conflict Theory, Functionalism, Symbolic interactionism, Critical Race, or Feminist Theory. You can use social stratification. (Approximately 2 pages)
IV. Research Methods: What are research methods, what are the main research methods in sociology, and how did I go about learning about this topic (e.g. what method/methods did we use)? (Here use Paper 1. Approximately 2 pages. You have to add the tasks (data collection) we did for the Community Schools research)
V. Results and Analysis: What did I learn from doing this research: What are community schools, what do they do, what do they look like, and are they the same everyhwere? (The word “analysis” can be hard to define. Here it means two things: 1) you just take a moment to think critically about what you have observed. 2) Compare and contrast the different Wards. (Approximately 2pages)
VI. Reflections and Conclusions: What are the limits of community service and what does sociological research have to offer us in terms of dealing with social problems. Does service end the problem or perpetuate it? (Approximately 1 page)
