Description of Assignment:
Choose ONE option.
Option 1: Choose a major prophet, minor prophet, or other writings from the Hebrew Bible and answer the following questions.
1. What does the book and/or prophet contribute to Jewish history or culture?
2. What significant trends or characteristics are expressed in the book?
3. How does the message of the book apply to you personally or to culture at large (Jewish or non-Jewish culture)
Prophets: Joshua, Judges, I Samuel, II Samuel, I Kings, II Kings, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi
Other Writings: Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Song of Songs, Ruth, Lamentations, Ecclesiastes, Esther, Daniel, Ezra, Nehemiah, I Chronicles, II Chonicles
Option 2: Similar to Option 1, choose a minor prophet or major prophet (but not the other writings) to read from the Hebrew Bible. Then, in the first paragraph, discuss the major themes described in the book. Then, imagine that you are applying these themes to a contemporary situation or event. Write your own piece on the contemporary situation by using similar style, tone, and themes within the prophet of your choice.
