1. According to the lectures and the reading, the term “Chicana/o” cannot be clearly defined by one single group of ethnic Mexican people, ideology, voice, identity, culture, or experience.  In your opinion and interpretation, how does the term “Chicana/o” represent the various ethnic Mexican groups, ideologies, voices, identities, culture, and experiences throughout its history as a label? 

2. Why do you think it was significant that Mexican American youth in the 1960s and 1970s placed this label on themselves and how did it represent their struggle at the time?

3. Finally, how does the history of the ethnic Mexican people in the U.S. give the term “Chicana/o” such power in the eyes of Chicana/o youth?  What about today?  Have any of you heard someone of ethnic Mexican background call themselves Chicana/o?
