Advances in genetic testing now allow scientists to identify people whose genetic background
makes them greater risks for certain diseases. A genetic predisposition to a certain disease,
however, does not guarantee that a patient will contract that disease. Environmental factors,
such as diet, exercise, and smoking also play a role. Insurance companies want to have access
to genetic information in order to help keep their costs down. Opponents feel that insurance
companies will misuse such information, by unfairly denying people coverage. Write an essay
in which you take a position on providing genetic testing information to insurance companies.
Be sure to support your argument with specific examples and logical reasoning.
