Personal Narrative
I’d like you to make it your most personal, and I’d like it to be an authentic experience.
Now that you have watched Residente by Puerto Rican Rapper Residente and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s “The Danger of a Single Story,” and after your discussions on the many topics pertinent to a single story, I’d like you to write a personal narrative of your own experience with a single story.
What “single story” have others held about you? How did you make a person see that you were not a single story? What was the process like? It could even be about a single story you had of yourself, of your own abilities or self-perception, and how you discovered that you were not that single story.
I would like this paper to be an experience for you and for the reader. This is a story you will tell, but it won’t be fictional. It will be your real experience. As such, it should have vivid details, specificity, and your unique approach, meaning your personality, your style, your essence.
Don’t hold back. Have fun with it, and write a paper you can be proud of.
Feel free to quote minimally from The Danger of a Single Story and/or from the film Residente, if you feel a particular passage(s) would help illuminate a point you would like to make.
The minimum page limit is three FULL pages.
