Write a 5-6 page essay based on Booker T. Washington’s Up From Slavery (1902), and W.E.B. Du Bois’s The Souls of Black Folk (1903), responding to the question below. Essay Question
Both Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois believed that education could help African-Americans improve their status in American society. Describe and compare the educational philosophies of these two thinkers. What were their theories about the importance of education to black advancement? Did they have similar or conflicting ideas about what kind of education black people should receive?
