(Presentation followed by Question & Answer – 10 minutes)
The local Chamber of Commerce is looking for original ideas for projects or ventures
that would meet a current need of local people or businesses. Successful ventures
would be supported by the Chamber and may attract government funding. Your
organisation is keen to be involved and has asked you and your colleagues to come up
with some ideas. Each member of the group must come up with an idea and explain
why their idea is the best.
You are to give a brief presentation on your chosen project or venture which will be
followed by opportunities for other members of the group to ask you questions.
The presentation should explain exactly what your proposal entails and how it meets the
needs of local people or businesses. This could include ventures such as:
a new facility or amenity for children / teenagers / young mothers / older people
etc
home support for disabled and / or old people
a pop-up shop to supply things not currently available in the area
a self-help group for local job seekers (CV writing, interview techniques etc)
an on-demand local transport system for those without cars or with mobility
issues
a local baby-sitting circle
something not on the list above, which you feel is needed in the area.
The total time for this is 10 minutes. Within this time, the presentation must be at least 4
to 7 minutes long and at least 3 to 6 minutes must be allowed for questions and
answers. Within these guidelines, it is up to you to decide how to run the session,
provided it lasts for 10 minutes overall.
The presentation should be as detailed and as interesting as possible. As well as
describing what the proposed venture or project is, you should indicate:
what need or needs it fulfils locally
why it is the most appropriate to put forward to the Chamber of Commerce.
Visual aids may be used in the presentation if you feel they would be useful.
When listening to presentations from others you should take notes ready for the Q&A
session which will follow and to take forward into the discussion sub-task 2.
Interruptions, including questions or comments, will not be allowed during the
presentation but that, at the end of the presentation, there will be a Q&A session.
In the Q&A session the other members of the group should ask for any information they
feel would be useful both about the proposal, the identified need and the practicality of
the proposal.
