A Class Divided

This video first aired in 1984, but it’s message is as relevant today as it was then.  Watch all segments and answer the following questions (total length = one hour.)  Submit to me via email. 

1.  Why, in your opinion, didn’t members of the designated minority groups defend each other as they were being verbally abused?  How do you feel you would have reacted had you been in this situation?

2.  Participants in this exercise are exposed to discrimination for a short time; relate their behavior and performance to that of minority group members in our society who are exposed to discrimination for a lifetime.

3.  From what you have seen in this film, who do you feel is responsible for the existence and elimination of racism in our society? What do you feel would be an effective way to eliminate racism?

4.  What was your initial reaction to the video?  Include a statement on whether or not the video (or the exercise itself) should be part of the general curriculum of a person’s education.  At what age do you feel this would be most 
effective?
